Posted July 10, 2018 07:10:48A little-known Canadian startup is trying to change the way people get to dance by offering free lessons and helping out those who don’t.
In fact, the company says it’s helping people get “dance” at least 10 times a day in the US, with lessons on demand, online and in local communities.
The company, which has raised $3.5 million in funding, is a spinoff of the company called Dance Dance Nation, which was founded by former CBC Radio DJ Mike Sperling and has since become one of the most popular online dance communities in Canada.
Dance Dance Nation is offering classes, dance workshops, videos and classes at events across the US and Europe.
Its members are a mix of dancers and choreographers from all over the world, from around the world.
“We really wanted to create a community that has the capacity to offer people the tools and the support to get into dance,” says Dance Dance National’s co-founder, Alex Kipnis.
The founders hope to build a new industry for people to get involved in, but their primary aim is to bring dancing back to communities in the United States.
“The only way to do that is to give people the skills and the motivation to be dancers, and that’s what we’re trying to do,” Kiplis says.
There are some people who can do this work.
But there are a lot of people who don.
There are a bunch of people in the world who can’t dance, and there’s a lot who can, but there’s not a lot that they want to do.
The goal, Kipinis says, is to turn the community around.
“It’s a very easy task for us to achieve.
It’s really simple: it’s to turn around a lot more people’s lives.”
The company is now focusing on US-based cities, with its first classes in Atlanta, Nashville and Orlando, in late 2019.
It plans to open a similar community in Canada soon.
Dancing is a growing and lucrative industry, accounting for some $20 billion in annual revenue, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics.
“Dancing has become the big art form in the arts,” says Michael Erikson, founder and chief executive of the Canadian Dance Institute, a national association of dance educators.
“But the dance business is still dominated by the big companies and they’re not necessarily interested in what is really happening, what’s really happening behind the scenes.”
The industry, Eriksons says, needs to find a way to “reach out to a wider audience”.
But for many people, the dancing is just a hobby or an exercise, says Karen McBride, a dance instructor at the University of Toronto.
“Most of my students and many of my peers are dancers,” she says.
“But we’re talking about a much wider audience that’s engaged in dancing, which is a very different way to look at it.”
People who want to learn the art of dancing are not going to be dancing all the time, and people who do need to learn to dance, they need to do something else.
“There are many reasons people can’t get into dancing, and Dance Dance Network’s founder hopes that its approach can help solve that problem.”
What we’re really trying to solve is, if you’re a beginner, you need to have an opportunity to have that experience with people you know who are really experienced in dancing,” McBride says.”
If you’re an expert, you can’t have that.
It will not work.
